Litigation

Civil, commercial and corporate disputes across courts and tribunals up to the Supreme Court.

Litigation

The Practice

M/s. RRN Legal conducts civil, commercial and corporate litigation across a broad range of courts and tribunals. Partners prosecute and defend client interests before the District Courts, the High Court of Madras and, through Advocates-on-Record on its panel, the Supreme Court of India in connection with Special Leave Petitions.

The litigation practice covers the full arc of a contested matter — drafting of pleadings, interlocutory applications, trial work, evidence, and appeals and revisions. The firm also appears before specialised forums, including the National Company Law Tribunal, Debts Recovery Tribunals, the Central Administrative Tribunal, consumer forums and the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.

A distinguishing feature of the firm's litigation work is its connection to its transactional practice: because the same firm drafts deeds, contracts and corporate documents, disputes can be handled with an understanding of the underlying transaction, which often shapes both strategy and evidence.

Areas of Work

Civil Litigation

The firm acts in civil suits — title, recovery, declaration, specific performance, partition and injunction — before the City Civil Court, District Courts and the High Court of Madras under the Code of Civil Procedure 1908. The work covers pleadings, interlocutory applications, evidence and trial, with limitation under the Limitation Act 1963 assessed at the outset.

Commercial & Corporate Disputes

The firm acts in commercial and corporate disputes, including contract, shareholder and partnership disputes, before the commercial divisions and the appropriate tribunals. This work draws on the firm's commercial and corporate practice, allowing disputes to be conducted with a clear understanding of the agreements and structures involved.

Writs & Constitutional Matters

The firm files and defends writ petitions under Article 226 of the Constitution before the High Court of Madras, challenging or supporting action by the State and public authorities, and acts in matters raising questions of administrative law and fundamental rights.

Appeals & Revisions

The firm acts in appeals and revisions through the court hierarchy — from trial courts to the High Court of Madras — preparing grounds of appeal, applications for stay, and arguing the matter before the appellate forum. The firm assesses the prospects and the limitation for appeal at the close of the trial stage.

Tribunal Practice (NCLT, DRT, Consumer, CAT)

The firm appears before specialised tribunals, including the National Company Law Tribunal, Debts Recovery Tribunals under the RDDB Act 1993 and SARFAESI Act 2002, consumer forums under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, the Central Administrative Tribunal and the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, applying the distinct procedure of each forum.
